How I won free Ray-Bans

April 15, 2010

Ahh Ray-Ban Wayfarers, so classic and cool. A few weeks ago I was thinking to myself, boy would I love a pair of legit Ray-Bans. But as student I obviously don’t have the type of income that lets me buy expensive stuff – unfortunately I have to eat and stuff. So loving blogs and the internet as much as I do, I searched google for  “free Ray-Bans”, and I went a step further and made it a blog only search. And bam, I find a contest to win a free pair of Ray-Ban wayfarers! The contest was put on by a really big online retailer for sunglasses. All I had to do was submit a picture of myself wearing my favorite shades. They would post all of the entries on their FB fan page, and the picture with the most likes within two days would win. Here was my entry:

So anyways, April 12th roles around, and ShadesDaddy puts the pictures up, and there are only 17 entries! I got really pumped and started thinking I could actually win. When I first applied I was thinking there were going to be a million entries and that my chances would be slim, but alas, no! So I got to work right away.

Create Facebook status – check

Email my list serves – check (Although I still had to bug everyone, god some friends you are!)

Ask friend to email her list serve – check  (Thanks to Burrows and the valks!)

Tweet it – check

Go to work with Facebook messages – check

Hound everyone that came on gchat and facebook chat – check and check (sorry about that guys, but it paid off!)

Result: 72 of my friends helped me out and “liked” the photo!

No idea what Tirbuson’s deal was, but no big deal, I got back at him by calling him Turdburson. Haha I’m so clever!

Anyways I am real pumped and excited to own my first pair of legit Ray-Bans. I wanted to give a shout out to ShadesDaddy for having the competition. They seem like a really cool company, and I looked around their website and I was pretty impressed. They have a HUGE selection of sunglasses, and the prices are lower than a lot of other sites I have seen. If you are looking for new sunglasses I would definitely check them out. You can see their blog here: ShadesDaddy Blog and follow them on twitter with @shadesdaddy. Oh and of course their facebook fanpage! : ShadesDaddy Fanpage. This is what made everything possible. And from looking on their wall, it looks like they have regular sales and discount codes you can find out about. So I would recommend becoming a fan too!

So I just want to give a general thanks to everyone that voted for my photo, and as soon as I get the shades i’ll be sure to take a nice pic and post it!

If there’s one thing you can take away from this blog post it is that the online world is huge, and there is always a way to find something you want. So take the extra 5 minutes and do what I did and maybe next time it will be you who wins something!

A ShadesDaddy plug? What a sell-out. What ever happened to the idealist Casey I met at university? Probably the last time I ever read this blog.

I remember a young man who loved commercialism so much that he sold vitamin water for fun…
